About the author
Since I was a little boy, I have wanted to be an author. In other words, I wanted to support myself and my family by writing and by being paid for what I wrote. My early heroes included Mark Twain, Lewis Carroll, and Mike Royko. Later I wanted to imitate the successful careers of Ernest Hemingway and Kurt Vonnegut Jr.
In recent years I have achieved part of that goal, with three books in stores credited to my name and with various other essays published in a variety of places. The money I’ve earned for all my writing would probably cover a year of gasoline for my car. Along the way, I’ve had a number of interesting jobs. I’ve worked in libraries and in fast food restaurants, I’ve been a tax preparer and a telemarketer, I have done church work and have taught college classes.
I will never catch up to Stephen King or Dave Barry, or even Robert Fulghum. But while I do other work for money, I can change my dream and give away my writing for free, receiving not even a penny for my thoughts. Happy reading! J.

  4. Hi, I just read your Novella again… I had promised you a long time ago that I would and it has been sitting in my inbox ever since. My apologies for taking so long! That said, I love where you went with it. Pastor Larry’s integrity and honesty are commendable, along with his sincere desire to help Crystal and Charlie, and mostly to serve the Lord faithfully. Having him bring his dad into his situation toward the end is stellar, giving him support and acoountability. This story is laced with so much marital advice, counseling insights and spiritual warfare strategies that I can’t quite say which affected me most. Let’s just say, I loved it all and it ended just as it should have. I believe that was one question you had asked me, if I had any suggestions about where it should go. Obviously, the Lord spoke directly to you and, now, through you! God bless your writing!

    • Thank you very much! I appreciate your kind words. Yes, I am happy with the finished product–happy enough that, a few weeks ago, I self-published it through amazon with the title “To Keep a Promise: A Love Story.” One person has been nice enough to suggest that I write a sequel, but I think I’ve said everything I can about those three characters. J.

      • Hi J… you are most welcome, and that is awesome news that you self-published it AND put it on Amazon. I am impressed! It would be a great tool for someone going through a similar struggle. The enemy is so deceptive, even the strongest marriages are not immune to his wickedness. So with that said, I am going to check it out on Amazon! Also, from my perspective, if the Lord gives you a sequel, it will be so. Otherwise, let there be a new thing…whatever you do next…and I have every confidence He will use it as well. HUGE BLESSINGS!!   7. Dear beloved brother Salvageable,
    I appreciate your personal story. I loved reading from an early age – especially Chronicles of Narnia and The Lord of the Rings. But I never really thought of myself as a “writer” until recently. It’s been more like a realization that I’m gradually becoming aware of, even though I’ve been posting on blogs for years. I have never received a penny for any of my writings (at least not yet), but I have received lots of rejection and persecution. For example, two of your commenters here, Slim Jim and Wally Fry, repeatedly blocked and deleted my posts on the blogs they control, simply because they don’t agree with my views on the Bible – but they can’t prove me wrong from the pages of the Bible. They are disobedient to the command of Jesus in Matthew 18. They can’t show me my fault, because I’m not wrong. Since they don’t want to admit they are wrong, they just cut me off, block me, and then talk about me without giving me any way to respond or defend myself.
    We don’t have to agree about everything. But if we disagree, we should be able to state WHY specifically, from the pages of the Bible, and agree to disagree agreeably – rather than prevent conversation to avoid having to admit to being “wrong.”

  10. You have a nice blog. I know I’ll enjoy reading your posts especially about your faith. It’s awesome that you already wrote and published three books and various essays. Actually, my dream is also to be a writer and perhaps to also be an author but I’m still a work in progress and I’m still far in achieving that dream. More power to you!
